What is middle C on Piano?
Let me tell you what’s exactly the deal about middle C on piano before I explain how to find it.
It’s the primary note in piano learning. As the name suggests, the middle C is a C note on a piano, but this C note falls in the middle section.
However, you must remember that middle C doesn’t mean the exact middle of the piano keys. It’s a C note that falls nearest to the middle of the piano.

Let’s answer this question by going through different types of pianos, one at a time.
1. Middle C on a 88-Key Piano | Standard Piano/Keyboard
There are 7 full octaves and 1 one-by-four octave in a piano/keyboard with 88 keys. The first note on an 88-key is an A (A0), and the last key is a C (C8).
It has a total of eight Cs.
In an 88-keys piano, the middle C is the fourth C from the left.
How to find the it?
First, figure out the middle of the piano. Then, count the fourth chopsticks (a group of two black keys) from the left. It should be a pair of black keys that fall nearest to the center.
The white key to the left of the chopsticks (a pair of black keys) is the middle C.
2. Middle C on a 76-Key Piano/Keyboard
Unlike the standard piano, there are 6 full octaves and a 1/2 octave in a piano/keyboard with 76 keys.
The first note on a 76-keys keyboard is an E (E1), and the last key plays note G (G7).
A 76-keys piano has a total of six Cs.
Keep in mind that the first notes aren’t the same in all pianos.
In a 76-keys keyboard, the middle C is the third C from the left.
How to find it?
First, figure out the middle of the piano. Then, count the third chopsticks (a group of two black keys) from the left. It should be a pair of black keys that fall nearest to the center.
The white key to the left of the chopsticks (the third pair of black keys) is the middle C.
3. Middle C on a 61-Key Piano/Keyboard
On a piano/keyboard with 61 keys, there are only 5 octaves.
The first note on a 61-key piano is a C (C2), and the last key is also C (C7). Please note that both the first and last keys are C.
A 61-keys piano has a total of six C’s.
The middle C is the third C from the left in a 61-keys piano.
How to find it?
If you find it confusing, just think that it’s quite similar to the 76-key piano.
Find the middle of the piano, then count the third chopsticks (a group of two black keys) from the left. It must fall nearest to the center.
The key to the left of the chopsticks (the third pair of black keys) is the middle C.
4. Middle C on a 49-Key Piano/Keyboard
There are perfectly 4 full octaves on a piano/keyboard with 49 keys.
The first note on a 49-key piano is a C (C2), and the last key is also C (C6).
Please note that both the first and last keys are C, like a 49-keys piano.
There are a total of 5 Cs on a 49-keys keyboard.
In the case of middle C, a 49-keys piano is quite similar to pianos with 76 keys and 61 keys.

How to find it?
As you did for the previous pianos, find the third chopsticks (a group of two black keys) from the left.
The key to the left of the chopsticks (the third pair of black keys) is the middle C in a 49-keys-piano.
Warm-Up Exercise from Middle C
Warm-up exercises in piano learning are basic piano playing practices that pianists do before getting into lessons and performances. The aim behind practicing warm-up exercises is to build up your finger strength, prevent serious injury, and improve your overall skill and fluency over the piano keys.
Play from C to G while hitting every note with your five fingers. Practice it from the middle C on your keyboard or piano. Put your 1st finger on C, 2nd finger on D, and so on.
Always start in a slower pace. In fact, go very slow when you are starting with it. But, once you get the hang of it, start practicing it a bit faster, and increase the speed gradually.
Try practicing the same exercise with one hand at a time for better results. In other words, practice the five finger scales with both left hand and right hand separately.
